One of our most popular products here at Promise Designs is our Russian Ring. We now have many different variations of this ring and it can also be bought as a necklace or earrings. Many people ask me ‘What is the meaning of the Russian Ring?’ or ‘Why is it called a Russian Ring?’ so with a little bit of research, I’d like to share with you the history of the Russian Ring.
During the 19th century, a new ring design joined the Russian tradition, a distinctive ring depicting three inter-linked bands of varying shades of gold. The bands were usually yellow gold, rose gold and white gold. The three bands represented the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Today the ring is known as the Russian wedding ring. The ring also goes by the following names – Trinity ring, triple roll ring, puzzle ring, as well as faith, hope and love ring.
Traditional Russian wedding jewelry includes a plain gold ring and a Russian ring. Selecting a Russian ring can have special meaning to a couple who wants to celebrate their heritage, admires Russian culture, or likes the unique design of the intertwined bands.
To honour Russian custom, it is best to wear the wedding ring on the right hand ring finger. This custom is practiced in many Orthodox Christian and Catholic countries because the priest places the ring on the couple’s right hand during the betrothal service based on a biblical passage. However, couples in countries that follow the Western European custom of wearing wedding bands on the left hand ring finger, may feel more comfortable wearing the ring on their left hands to represent social recognition as married.
With all this in mind we created many different variations of this beautiful ring, bringing it from being used as a wedding ring to wearing it everyday.
